People need to use less cars! cars cause a lot of pollution. They pollute through their whole “life,” from when they are made from raw materials in the earth to the day 20% of a vehicle gets thrown into the dump to produce 7% of its lifetime pollution.

When people make cars they need to get raw materials from the earth. They need Glass, rubber, steel, and plastic. These process to get these materials from the earth also cause pollution.The process can cause chemicals to leach into the water supply, and/or disturb the earth.

The  pollution from cars comes in many different forms. One form is smog. When the exhaust from the car mixes with the sunlight it forms as a kind of fog. Smog is harmful because it can cause asthma and other breathing problems. It can irritate eyes and skin. It can also damage organs and could even cause cancer.

Another kind of pollution cars can cause is where the exhaust from the car goes all the way up to the atmosphere. When other gases mix with the water in the clouds, the rain falls as a Acid Rain. This mixture can hurt plants and animals.

Cars are also so responsible for climate change. The Carbon Dioxide from cars has raised the temperature of the earth which is melting the Arctic! This is making it hard for animals to live there.

Cars can cause another kind of pollution but this kind is mental. It’s called noise pollution. This pollution can make people stress and cause tham to have headaches. It can affect hearing and sleep too.

One way to lessen pollution would be to bike or take the train or bus. You could also get a hybrid or electric car. There are over 400,000 electric cars out there and if everyone or most people in the world got one it could help reduce the amount of pollution in the world. Some electric cars can only go about 80 miles and the ones that go farther (400 miles) are not as affordable. Would you buy a electric car that can’t go that far just to help the environment?
