We Should Explore the Ocean - by Hiro

Our Oceans are dying by almost everything imaginable. Even the sun is killing our oceans. If we can find a way to stop our reefs from dying, coral mining and even our atmosphere's ozone layer from breaking, we could possibly find a way to keep our earth alive. We need to keep our oceans as healthy as possible to sustain a healthy earth. If we don’t keep our oceans healthy, there could be massive consequences.

We need to help our reefs. They’re dying from almost everything. Most coral reefs are dying from chemical pollution, sewage dumped into water and marine debris. Chemicals such as vapors, oil and gases. Some Fishing practices use cyanide to slow the fish down to make it easier to catch by putting it in the cracks of coral but it does not only kill the fish, it kills the coral too. Coral mining is to take samples of coral to see if it is healthy but all it is doing is destroying the reef. Last but definitely not least, ozone depletion. Because of ozone depletion, the sun can give of ultraviolet radiation that can reach the shallow waters that reefs are in, and kill the coral.

A japanese study showed that a medicine for specific cancers could be extracted from sea sponges. This proves that certain sea animals can provide cures to specific diseases. Another thing is that scientists from NOAA found and extracted a chemical originally from sponges and coral to fight some of the most infectious bacteria.

My last reason is that there is way too much pollution in the earth's seas. In a beached whale, people found 30 meters squared of tarp, four and a half meter long hose, a 9 meter long plastic rope and 2 flower pots. This is important because it shows how much garbage is in the oceans and what the consequences are for not recycling plastic and throwing away garbage.

I hope these 3 reasons provided you with the thought that we need to explore and clean our oceans to help save our whole planet and the human race. We need to keep our oceans as healthy as possible to sustain a healthy, happy world.
